My Ph.D. research at the University of Texas at Austin included a computer model of the Earth to Mars trajectory that finds a faster, safer, more efficient mission to Mars. Take any conventional trajectory optimized by any other method, and my program finds a trajectory that uses 25% less fuel or arrives at Mars 30 days faster. You can also go to Section Two of the dissertation, which is devoted to this program ~ including a listing of the Fortran code for the Artificial Intelligence algorithm, flow charts, and a formal technical paper describing how the program works and the results.
The big question you must ask is, why was I expelled from grad school at UT Austin a semester before I completed this Ph.D. dissertation project? Especially since it also has applications to solving the ballistic missile targeting problem they have been having so much trouble with for the Strategic Missile Defense. . . what they heck have they spent that $1 trillion on over the last thirty years?
