BTU Bill's Guide to Energy Conservation is a how to book written for homeowners. It gives a half dozen simple projects you can do to reduce your utility bills by 30% or more. There's even a free computer program you can send off for with an international database, that you can use to calculate the exact savings.
The reason this is an X File is that the program shows clearly a conspiracy in the construction industry, to build homes and commercial buildings that are a fraction as energy efficient as they could be. It's not even hard to see. For example, a light colored roof in a warm climate will reduce your cooling bills by 30%; likewise for a dark colored roof in a cold climate. The computer program shows this clearly, and it does the same calculations that energy auditors do for large commercial buildings.
